We enjoyed our four days there very much this last December on our way down from working in the Sahtu Region of the NWT. Tessa is a great host and breakfasts were very pleasant and informal. She has a lot of useful information on how to plan a stay in Yellowknife, and on life in the North in general. YK is an interesting city for a short trip to the NT, and folks are very accommodating and friendly.

All older buildings built in permafrost areas have to have storage facilities for water and sewage with a truck that delivers [and pumps out] twice a week. This was familiar to us coming from further north, but one has to be little more careful than usual with not using too much shower water...and not flushing every time you use the toilet. But hey! that's part of the ambiance of living in the North. And if you can watch the snow fall outside the living room window while a wood stove provides heat indoors, it's a small price to pay...

All in all just a fantastic stay! They do have limited water supply, so you have to watch your shower time. The wifi connection is excellent, but no video streaming. The only thing that did bother me was there was this knocking and creaking noise in the room that I think might have been the heater, but I'm not sure, it was a bit annoying, especially when trying to nap. Other than I would highly recommend this wonderful place!

The breakfasts here are just phenomenal and will fill you up until dinner! My first breakfast I spent two hours trading travel stories with Xabier, Christina, and another guest, Holly, which I loved!

Xabier and Christina both went out of their way to give me the lay of the land, explain the bus schedule, and gave me a key to the house in case they were out. I even walked the Great Slave Lake w/Xabier into town and past the awesome Snow Castle (part of their big Winter Festival). The walks only about 15mins to town and 40 mins to downtown.

What a fantastic B&B in the Old Town area of Yellowknife! The rooms here are cozy, the location is great, the breakfast is fantastic and the hosts, Xabier & Christina were amazing!

I was only there for two nights and arrived after midnight the first night there, but that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I was cordially greeted by Xabier and left to my own devices to get settled in the Midnight Sun room (which has full bed and then a ladder to the loft which has a twin bed). I specifically came to see the Aurora and was disappointed they were not out and it looked like they weren't going to be. But, I kept vigil on the AurorMax website and it paid off because just after 1:30am I went out on the deck in the -35 degree temp and Nature's Spectacular Lightshow came out in full G1 Storm force; I was treated to the greatest spectacle of my life! The Northern Lights were in full color spectrum starting in wisps and streams of neon green and then dancing in curtains of light green flaring into hues of blue, pink, and purple! I only stayed out for just under 30 mins, but that was long enough to have my breath taken away!

I had dinner at the Dancing Moose, which is only a 10min walk away and came back to nap before attempting to see the lights again the 2nd night. Sadly they were not in view from the deck that night and I was too tuckered out from the cold to walk back down to the lake where they were visible.

A lot of people using the Blue Raven will be interested in coming to see the Northern Lights so some of your fellow-guests may come and go at odd hours.

It is a $20 taxi ride each way from the airport and the rooms run $90CAD/night, but nothing is cheap or even reasonably priced in Yellowknife, so the pricing is on par with the rest of the town.
